Doin' it for the (Insta)gram

Instagram, has become an increasingly important tool for communication in general, and has led to a niche in science communication. From my experience, this platform really humanises science communicators and / or scientists. Showing glimpses into daily life, and what being a scientists is really all about. The strong emphasis on visual tools (due to the nature of the app) removes any technical, and wcan what sometimes be intimidating technical jargon that you might find on other platforms.

As a science communicator, who is not a scientist, the way I have to utilise this social media often has to take a different form from others. As I don't work in a lab or scientific location (I'm usually found in an office or on a train), I have to rely on other visual tools and methods to make my science communication messages entertaining and engaging.

After an trip to an architectural tile showroom (inspiration can be found in the oddest of places), this got me thinking about how nature was embedded within their showroom and products; which otherwise is a very industrial space, and how they had glimpses of bringing nature back inside our spaces. This thinking led to the production of a 6 piece Instagram story (and later developed into Instagram post):
