What should good use of Minecraft in communicating STEM subjects contain:
For this section, I feel it is easier to list aspects that will allow for the best approach to using this platform. I, by no means, suggest this is a final list, this is something which always can be added to, and aspects will be different for each individual concept and use of Minecraft. These are concepts and conclusions that I have made myself throughout this case study and I am summarising here:
● Game / activity design should be created with purpose; there is clear rationale for using Minecraft as a platform.
● Activities / experiences (when possible) should allow some element of creative game play for students; not just limited to an activity in the lesson.
● As many barriers should be tackled to ensure that inclusion is achieved; for example this should be embedded into school lessons (not just after school clubs for the few).
● Team work should be encouraged in the approach to tasks involved to make the most out of the concept of the Minecraft platform.
● (although not covered in this case study) Critical, and appropriate evaluation should take place of the use and effectiveness of Minecraft.
Pros and Cons of using Minecraft.
Despite outlining how to best use Minecraft above, it's important to note this doesn't necessarily mean that using this tool is the best approach for a STEM communicator. After conducting an analysis of using Minecraft, I've summarised the pros and cons that communicators need to consider before using Minecraft.
